My goodness, it is already November and Thanksgiving is only two weeks (exactly, as of today!) away! I just love this time of the year and the holiday season! It is such a warm and fun time. This year it is particularly special because it will be Averi's first Thanksgiving and Christmas! I know she doesn't know what it means but I do and I am so thankful that I get to now share holidays with her. I'm also looking forward to getting to relive my own childhood through her as our precious baby girl grows. My mom has always gone above and beyond when decorating for holidays and I wouldn't have it any other way. Christmas is the best, my parent's house is totally transformed into a winter wonderland! I just know Ave will love all the lights and sparkly objects! It amazes me how fast this year has flown by, seems like just yesterday I found out I was pregnant with our little angel.
So, as I promised, here is the video of Averi eating rice cereal for the first time, AND off of a spoon like a big girl! She LOVED it, gobbled it down like it was the best thing in the world (which it definitely is not, yuck!). It took her a few tries to really grasp what was happening but she did really well! I was a little hesitant to start her because I had really wanted to wait until she was six months. Our pediatrician said it was totally up to us but she gave us the green light if we wanted to start. I caved and started on the 31st so she would be exactly five months when she began getting solids. Here is the video:
Needless to say, I think she likes it! :-) Now after a week of just rice cereal in the evenings, we decided to try an ACTUAL solid. I started with peas and well, lets just say Averi was not a big fan of them. Ha! She gagged every single time she swallowed a bite of them. It was hilarious. She was such a trooper though and muscled through it for as long as she could. The second night we fed her peas, she ate about 4 or 5 spoonfuls and then just wouldn't open her mouth for them anymore (and the reaction was still the same). Take a look at the difference in reaction from rice cereal to peas:
I still laugh just as hard when I watch this video!
Last but not least, after our failed attempts and convincing her to like peas, last night we moved on to try squash. It was a hit! She liked it SO much better than peas. It is obvious she is still getting used to the solids (consistency, taste, etc), so tonight I tried mixing a little of her squash with her cereal, and bam! She was a chowhound, it was easier for her to eat it because the consistency was a little more like what she is used to.
Hope everyone has a fabulous Friday, and wonderful weekend! Lots of love from The "Soon To Be" Moreno family!!
