blessings of all sizes

You know, holding onto anger and bitterness is like a full-time job. A job you just hate and force yourself to do, because you feel you "have" to. Does that make sense? I've made the choice to have no part in harboring anger and bitterness and to just "let go and let God". I realize each day how blessed I am in SO many aspects, and how I should be enjoying all of my blessings, not taking them for granted and not focusing on the petty things. I am a new mommy, and a newly engaged lady to my best friend, two things that have made me the happiest I've ever been! I'm ready to focus on all of the love and excitement that goes into wedding planning and even more so, watching Averi grow and learn new things each and every day. When I attended The Academy (a Paul Mitchell Partner School), our co-founder was Winn Claybaugh, a motivational speaker. He always talks about how if you have people in your life who are always negative, and are always bringing people down, to cut ties with them. You can't be happy when you surround yourself with negative people. He also says to allow yourself to have ONE "bitch buddy", someone you can vent to and complain to when you just have to get it out (Lord knows, we all have those days!). But only one, that way, you aren't always complaining to everyone. Pretty simple, and logical if you ask me. Anyways, that's what I'm working on doing, cutting ties with the people who are negative, mean, and bring me down. I am also working on becoming a better and more positive person with each day! And also, strengthening my walk with Christ. As he is the only one who can help me achieve this.

So anyways, we had a wonderful weekend with friends and family. Our good friends Bonnie and Brad drove in from Houston to share in the 2nd Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest that my parents host. Last year, Bonnie and Brad took home the grand prize title and continued their win this year! Although, I do have to admit, they most definitely deserved it this year (not so sure about last year! haha!) David and I just kind of free-handed our pumpkin at the last minute because it was pretty clear we weren't in the running. Take a look at the pumpkin entries:
(Ours was the one on the far left, Joey, Bonnie's son carved the middle one, and B&B carved AVERI!)

Pretty darn cute, if you ask me! Of course they won!

Ave with her pumpkin!

This was the awards ceremony. As you can see the B&B team celebrates, and David and I sulk. (we're good actors!)
Ave told me she loved me anyways, even if our pumpkin didn't win. She gave me a hug to try and console me. :-)

So sad our friends had to go back to Houston but so thankful they took the time to drive up and see us, we love you guys! It made for a really fun and relaxing weekend. Needless to say, it's taken me this long to update, but I did enjoy the few days with minimal web time, and more family and bonding time! We also tried rice cereal on a spoon with Averi for the first time on Monday, don't worry, we got in on video! That will be my next update, don't you fret! Love to you all, and thank you for being a positive part of my life!
